Adelaide
Scarcez, a successful dancer, was 22 when she met the magician
Alexander Herrmann in 1875. After their marriage, she joined
his enormous, spectacular show. She assisted him, and she
danceda popular part of the performances.
Alexander
Herrmann died in 1896. Adelaide was grief-stricken, but the
show went on. In 1897, the "Herrmann the Great Co." went on
the road starring Adelaide and Leon Herrmann, a nephew. Adelaide
performed her dances and some of Alexander's more spectacular
pieces. She and Leon had some differences, and parted ways
in 1899.
Adelaide
Herrmann, known as The Queen of Magic, toured with
her grand show on and off until she retired in 1928 at age
75.
Madame
Herrmann's giant traveling illusion show carried everything
with it, including elaborate stage sets like the one shown
below.
