Diane
Perlov, Ph.D.
Diane Perlov serves as the Deputy Director for Exhibits at
the California Science Center and is the exhibit curator for
Magic: The Science of Illusion.
Her responsibilities include supervising the development of
the California Science Center's upcoming World of Ecology.
She
has dedicated her professional career to science center and
museum work, focusing on the public understanding of science.
She has worked at the Oakland Museum, the Fowler Museum, and
since 1984 at the California Science Center. Previous to her
work on Magic, Perlov developed more than six exhibitions
on themes of science and technology, including three major
exhibitions that have toured internationally:
- Special
Effects: The Science of Movie and Television Magic
- Special
Effects 2: The Magic Continues
- Balancing
Acts: Providing for Today, Preserving Tomorrow
She
has presented papers and led conference sessions at national
and international conferences on museum exhibit development.
Currently, Perlov serves on the Program Planning Committee
for the Association of Science-Technology Centers.
Perlov
earned her Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of California
at Los Angeles. She has conducted research on livestock marketing
in northern Kenya, energy conservation in rural Kenya, and
women's economic enterprises in highland Bolivia. In addition
to serving on various committees of professional societies
throughout her career, Perlov has been a consultant for the
Royal Swedish Academy, a Research Fellow at the National Science
Foundation, and is a recent recipient of an award from the
International Partnership Among Museums.
